HR Specialist - Grand Junction, CO


We are seeking an HR Specialist to join our team! The HR specialist will handle and provide support for various HR employee programs, within the organization.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions related to employee relations, payroll and benefits.
  • Process and maintain bi-weekly payroll including payroll and tax data maintenance, garnishments and ACA compliance.
  • Calculates and provides staff with annual fringe benefit allowance; reviews enrollment forms for accuracy and coordinates enrollment with third-party administrator.
  • Ensures compliance with COBRA guidelines by preparing letters and other paperwork as directed; receives and records COBRA insurance premium payments.
  • Conduct benefits enrollment for new employees, including creating and communicating benefits information.
  • Assists in hiring process by coordinating job posting on the website, reviewing resumes, and performing telephone interviews and reference checks.
  • Complete I-9 for new hires and maintains I-9 records. Complete E-verify for all new employees.
  • Submit the online applicant investigation requests and assist with new employee background checks, drug- screens and DOT verifications.
  • Manage all employee performance documentation, including performance warnings and drug screen results.
  • Coordinates health, life, 401(k) and disability insurance enrollments and communicates with service providers concerning routine administration of programs.
  • Perform payroll/benefits-related reconciliations.
  • Conduct audits of various payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommend any corrective action.
  • Update HRIS database records and process paperwork for new hires, terminations and other status changes.
  • Assist Controller and HR director with various research projects and/or special projects.
  • Schedule/coordinate training meetings.
  • Create new employee personnel files and file papers and documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Approve and maintain all vacation and leave requests.
  • Enter and maintain all Rig Welders and Pickup Truck rentals – send notices when insurance is expiring.
  • Process Unemployment requests including representing company in unemployment hearings when necessary.
  • Maintains the employee handbook, and other policy manuals with updated resolutions and other pertinent information, as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations concerning employment.
  • Assist with or prepare correspondence.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Education/Experience:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field and 2-4 years of job-related experience, preferably in a human resource department; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
