Construction Cost Estimator (Civil Engineering) - Grand Junction, CO

Responsibilities:
  • Project file setup.
  • Plan and specification review.
  • Project schedule generation.
  • Internal planning and support labor hours take off.
  • Quantity survey & takeoff using design documents.
  • Work breakdown structure generation.
  • Building detailed material, labor and equipment estimates using RS Means database item selection.
  • Generation of estimate assumptions and clarifications.
  • Maintains knowledge of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Participates in internal reviews.
Additional duties: Ongoing comparison of estimated vs. actual costs, maintenance of item and assembly database, capture historical data and current cost trends & maintain internal estimating project logs and assists engineers in product research.


Requirements: 


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Construction Project Management, or related technical discipline preferred.

At least 2 years of estimating experience in building trades and civil construction with related vocational training required

Analytical, critical thinking and technical skills as well as the ability to work under strict deadlines.
Detail oriented individual.
Communication with other departments, engineers and project managers to resolve issues.
Ability to evaluate contingency requirements.

Fluency in computer software to prepare estimates and supporting documentation:
  • WinEstimator estimating software or equivalent
  • Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Project, Outlook
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Google Earth
Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents.
Ability to identify and quantify cost factors such as production time, labor costs, materials and special expenses relating to specific job sites.
Time management skills.
Writing skills.
Technical knowledge of the general construction industry.
Knowledge of MasterFormat & UniFormat.
Ability to generate high level estimates with minimal project scope input.
Skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks independently with little instruction.
Ability to work within established policies and procedures, using independent judgment and ingenuity.

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.
