MESA MOVING & STORAGE GRAND JUNCTION
The Grand Junction Branch of Mesa Moving & Storage has an immediate opening for a General Manager. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the branch, including supervision of the operations department, the sales department - including actively generating outside sales - and all office management.
Summary of Senior Management Team Requirements
As a member of the Senior Management Team, this position is a key contributor to the company’s overall strategy as it relates to business development and sales. Additionally, this position will participate in senior management team meetings and will be exposed to information that is shared only with other individuals at the same or higher levels. Therefore, this position requires conduct that is reflective of senior levels within the organization, including maintaining confidentiality of information that relates to business strategy, sales approach, cost structure, and knowledge of Mesa employees.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
As the primary business contact for the branch, this position is critical to the both the employees’ and clients’ experiences and is responsible for the following:
  • Maximize branch and company profits by:
  • Reviewing weekly and daily service commitments; assigning employees, equipment, vehicles, and other resources as necessary to accomplish all jobs as efficiently as possible within the established parameters.
  • Meeting with branch sales representatives on a weekly basis to review the demand sold and the capacity available for immediate and future weeks. Plan the need for increased sales to support fixed expenses and capacity, or reschedule commitments based on manpower or equipment limitations.
  • Determining the security needs during operating and non-operating hours, establishing authorization to alarm codes and key access, maintaining access control between the warehouse and offices, and assigning responsibility for alarms response.
  • Comparing monthly budget variances and trends within branch to provide recommendations for budget line items to Controller.
  • Surveying the warehouse space for overall housekeeping and space utilization to ensure that vaults and loose storage are effectively managed to ensure the best goods protection under Mesa’s control while providing optimum space utilization.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by:
  • Establishing processes and procedures to provide quality services and limit customer complaints
  • Determining the course of service and working diligently to eliminate service failures
  • Resolving customer service issues promptly, consistently, and fairly, managing the best interests of the company with the best interests of the customer
  • Investigating the root cause of claims problems, verifying or denying validity directly with operating employees, and assigning accountability based on the investigation results.
  • Hire, train, and manage employees in accordance with appropriate company policies, ensuring that quality employees are rewarded appropriately, and the skills and performance of all employees are maximized by:
  • Practicing good recruiting and hiring methods, including objective application and resume review relative to the job description
  • Conducting, at a minimum, annual performance evaluations for all direct reports and recommending merit increases reflective of overall performance, market conditions, and internal equity
  • Continuous analysis of current employee skill sets and capacity to determine training opportunities and/or increased/decreased staffing requirements
  • Mentoring direct reports to assist in the development of higher-level management, communication, and technical skills necessary for advancement
  • Working with the HR Department to ensure that employees are appropriately counseled, disciplined, or terminated
  • Minimize voluntary turnover by paying attention to employee needs and wants, and ensuring strong communication on behalf of the company to address concerns
  • Promoting safety in all communication and activities, including routine monitoring of compliance with safety policies and procedures during walk-throughs and on-site visits, and enforcing the safety program through recognition and communication in support of the Safety Department
  • Lead the branch by:
  • Effectively communicating branch and company goals
  • Conducting regular staff meetings to update managers on branch performance, problems, policies, and procedures
  • Professionally representing the branch at all company meetings, ensuring that important branch issues are communicated and that company goals and expectations are then communicated at the branch level
  • Being a role model of the company’s core values of Pride, Respect, and Trust
  • Demonstrating effective time management and setting appropriate priorities in order to accomplish tasks
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma is required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree are preferred
  • Management experience within a moving & storage branch operation is a plus
  • Strong customer and sales focus to build corporate and commercial business
  • Strong knowledge of general operations strategies and activities, including understanding of financial statements and the budgeting process
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills representative of a senior manager
  • Responsive to all requests within the organization, managing expectations and delivering results
  • PC literacy at the medium to high level, including experience using MS Office products
