Horseback Wranglers/ Trail Guides - Steamboat Springs, CO

We are hiring Horseback Wranglers/ Trail Guides, if you have a friendly smile, are honest and willing to work hard, love the outdoors and enjoy working with people, we have a very special ranch employment opportunity for you!
Saddleback Ranch is a 4th Generation working cattle ranch located only 17 miles from scenic Steamboat Springs, CO. The immense 8000-acre ranch is family owned and operated.


Applicants for employment must be at least 18 years of age. Ranch housing can be provided, please expect to have roommates. No smoking or drug use is allowed. A neat, clean appearance is necessary. No visible tattoos or body piercings (other than ears).

We search for staff who are mature self-starters, who have strong communication skills and are team players. Our staff appreciate nature and have the mental and physical stamina for ranch life. The ranch is an extension of our home and we expect our staff to share our standards and moral conduct while at the ranch. Respect for fellow staff members is paramount.

We are looking to fill a position Mid-May trough September with the option of applying for winter work as well.

Responsibilities include:
-Gathering and feeding, saddling and preparing horses for rides;
-Leading Guest Trail Rides; safety officer, story teller and teacher
-Teaching beginner and intermediate riders; coaching proficient riders
-Inspecting, maintaining and cleaning tack, being sure all is safe and in good working order;
-Provides or assists with ranch entertainment (usually in the evenings) a
-Tells endless jokes and humorous stories.

Requirements:
-Extensive western horse knowledge and skills, and the ability to effectively teach these skills must be demonstrated.
-Strong "people" skills: we successful wranglers demonstrate confidence, warmth, initiative, good judgment and leadership skills. Shy and timid people do not do well. People who need to "sow wild oats" do not last long here.
-Must be able to lift and repeatedly carry 85 pounds a minimum of 300 feet while working at 8,000 feet altitude
-Must be able to communicate to the public with tact and clarity, and exhibit a patient and knowledgeable attitude with horses.
-Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.

We expect our facilities to be kept spotlessly clean, all activities to be led with safety and professionalism, and our guest services and relations to be outstanding. Our guests are not just customers, but members of our ranch family. Pay depends on experience.
