THE ROLE
GSI’s HR team is not the traditional HR team you see in most corporate environments…because we aren’t a traditional corporate environment. We are a family - not a dysfunctional family - but a fun, innovative, hardworking family! So if you like to think outside the box (or maybe don’t even want to get into the box), and bring innovation, passion and caring to everything you do – this might be the place for you. If you like to create and follow the rules and enjoy bureaucracy, keep looking.
We run fast, work hard and succeed together. Check your ego at the door – humility is a job requirement. We care about people, growth, innovation, doing the right thing and providing the best value for our clients. We tend to lose sleep over taking care of these things. Bottom line, we are in search of real people that believe in and deliver the impossible every day. If you are not passionate about making things better for our organization, employees and clients, and have no desire to lead from the front, you will not be successful here.
GSI’s culture is unique. It is fast-paced, family oriented (we are kid & dog friendly), innovative & decidedly un-corporate. The mindset is geared to constant challenge and will suit people who are driven to succeed, not afraid to make decisions, courageous and resilient enough to find their own way and believe that “good enough” isn’t good enough.
If you are a servant leader who doesn’t make promises you can’t keep, if your “yes means yes” and your “no means no”, if you are loyal, caring, open to learning, and are approachable and supportive – let’s talk!

JOB PURPOSE
As a key leader within the organization, you will be responsible for the overall strategic vision and direction of Human Resources. Protecting the culture in partnership with the Chief Culture Officer, taking care of the people and shaping the workforce in a complex, high-growth environment, are imperative. In addition to providing leadership for the development and implementation of appropriate HR practices and programs, you will be responsible for the strategic human resources planning and execution in all functional areas including but not limited to recruitment, training, organizational development, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, payroll and employee relations.
An important initiative for you will be to develop and implement new programs that will have an impact on the attraction, engagement, development and retention of the people resources in the organization – while keeping the core values at the center of it all.
You will partner closely and communicate regularly (actually you will over-communicate!) with leaders, managers, and employees from across the organization.

JOB SCOPE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Manage and professionalize existing HR and training departments
 Develop recruiting initiatives and capabilities to fill key vacancies (especially at the crew level as we grow) while ensuring the people hired fit the culture
 Ensure leaders are properly equipped to interview for skills and culture fit by creating interviewing processes and developing and implementing a hiring manager toolkit with associated training
 Develop systematic and proactive training programs such that GSI can staff their growth needs almost exclusively with organic growth and promotion, especially on the field side
 Develop retention plans to identify factors involved in employee turnover, especially at the experienced laborer level, to retain key staff as GSI grows and builds more crews
 Develop performance review processes and incentive comp programs that tie compensation to measurable performance metrics that reinforce goal attainment and culture
 Personally oversee all new-hire training events
 Partner with the Chief Culture Officer, ensuring that GSI’s unique culture is not diluted as we grow (are we being clear enough about how important and unique our culture is?)
 Recommend new approaches to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed – we love innovation AND it’s one of our Core Values
 Continually assess the competitiveness of all programs and practices against the relevant comparable companies, industries and markets
 Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and the employees in order to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues
 Develop appropriate programs for effective management of the people resources of the corporation
 Continue improving the programs, policies, practices and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational people issues of the organization

REQUIREMENTS
To ensure success in this fast moving, change driven environment, you must be a strategic professional who is willing to get your hands dirty & do what it takes to get the job done. If you are afraid to put on a pair of work boots and go out on the job site, you will not be successful here. At GSI, everyone works hard, and no one is too good to jump in and help with any job - so you must be proactive and see what needs to be done, then do it. This role requires someone who has the desire to impact change across the organization through its people and drives that change by being a servant leader to the employees. The ability to source, hire, develop, engage and retain people in a high growth environment and manage through change is essential.
A knowledge of HR policies, procedures, compliance and employment laws, and a solid understanding of how to develop and execute on all facets of an HR department will be helpful in this role, but even more important is an understanding of business, an ability to use your head, and a willingness to dive in and get the job done in unique and innovative ways.

An ideal candidate will have a broad based Human Resources/Business background who can build programs around talent acquisition, talent management, compensation, organizational design/planning, employee relations, and training/development to create an HR environment that is inclusive and far from the bureaucratic, policy-driven personnel departments of the past!

If you sit in Denver, you will need to travel to the Grand Junction office at least one week per month and to job sites on a fairly regular basis. If you sit in Grand Junction, you will travel to job sites across the US and Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS
 BS/BA in a discipline that helped you make your way into HR
 You must have a brain and not be afraid to use it
 Experiences are more important than experience
 Attitude counts as much as aptitude
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Engineering background a plus
 Military/Farm background a plus
